Maybe we can make a difference
by Terri Mackinnon
Cancer is not a word unknown to my family. My sister struggled through breast cancer and aggressive treatment following a mastectomy. Cancer hit again this year and I had a very difficult time watching both my parents die of cancer. Dad passed away in February and mom died March five weeks later.
My father had been diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery to remove his right kidney but it was not successful and managed to spread to other organs. Mom however had pancreatic and she decided to not seek treatment outside of palliative care.
Since that time I have had many friends and family send me information that they felt I should at least read. Each friend offered some new idea or share information that may make even the slightest difference.
The following is the information that I received and thought it might be interesting to pass on to others since it was surprising to me.
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Make sure you cover the bowl with a paper towel instead.
I felt that this information was important to share with others as they have shared with me. Today we need to pass interesting facts and findings that may make a difference. Putting plastic wrap into my microwave will never happen again.
In summarizing one of the main reasons I realized that it was important that I found some of the possible reasons my family was affected was to prevent my children and grandchildren from also suffering the same pain that has already happened to our family. Yes we did all of the above... Previously... that was then, this is Now!

I would really like to read your hub but it's all goofy on my screen? I wanted to let you know so that we could read it and I'm sure we all have something in common with you! Unfortunately!

WF,
The hub is fine this morning and looks good.
You are so right about the plastics. I am trying hard to stop the microwave plastic wrap practice. I find that using another plate, upside down over the food works well, as does a glass pot cover.
We've gotten rid of the little one's plastic sippy cups and use the new stainless cups instead. Although we don't buy the little plastic bottled water so much anymore, our water jugs that are delivered are now plastic! What happened to the old glass ones?
Dear womenfishing: GREAT hub. Fantastic lay-out and creative style. Cancer has taken some loved family members as well as close friends over the years. Thank you for the information. And as for the 'powerful,' "Big C," allow me to be bold: BRING IT! You will not see me running from YOU! Thanks for your writing. You are a true talent.
